As of November 2, 2026, the Washington Legislature lists no prefiled bills of any kind for 2027, psychedelic or otherwise. The four psychedelic bills of 2025-26 ended in committee without a floor vote, and the 2027 session opens January 11.

Where things stand on November 2

As of November 2, 2026, the Washington State Legislature's prefiled-bill service returns an empty list: no bills on any subject have been prefiled for the 2027 session.1 The Legislature says members "can file bills in the month before session begins," and that prefiled bills "are officially introduced the first day of the session."2 For the 2025 session, prefiling opened on December 2, 2024, as the Washington Retail Association reported.10 We haven't found an announced date for this year.

State law fixes the start: regular sessions begin "on the second Monday of January,"3 which in 2027 falls on January 11.

What happened to the four 2025-26 bills

Four bills in the 2025-26 biennium named psychedelic substances, ibogaine or psilocybin in their titles. None reached a floor vote. Their last recorded actions, as listed on November 2, 2026:4

Psychedelic bills of the 2025-26 biennium, last action as of November 2, 2026
Bill and official titleSponsor and introductionLast action
HB 1433, "Concerning access to psychedelic substances"Rep. Macri; introduced January 20, 2025January 12, 2026: "By resolution, reintroduced and retained in present status" (House Health Care and Wellness)
SB 5201, "Concerning access to psychedelic substances"Sen. Salomon; introduced January 13, 2025January 12, 2026: reintroduced and retained in present status (Senate Labor and Commerce)
SB 5204, "Concerning ibogaine-assisted therapy"Sen. Salomon; introduced January 13, 2025January 12, 2026: reintroduced and retained in present status (Senate Health and Long-Term Care)
SB 5921, "Concerning psilocybin"Sen. Salomon; introduced January 12, 2026February 4, 2026: "Referred to Ways & Means"

The 2026 regular session, the second year of the 2025-26 biennium, adjourned sine die on March 12, 2026.5 The Legislature's records show no action on any of the four since. Bills are numbered within a biennium (these four are 2025-26 bills), so a psychedelic proposal in 2027 would be filed as a new 2027-28 bill.

Where Washington law sits going into 2027

A 2027 bill would start from the same baseline. Psilocybin and psilocyn are Schedule I controlled substances under Washington law.6 Seattle's Resolution 32021, adopted in 2021, says entheogen-related activities "should be among The City of Seattle's lowest enforcement priorities," but a council resolution doesn't change state law.7 The psilocybin law that did pass, 2SSB 5263 in 2023, created a Psilocybin Task Force and, "subject to appropriation," directed the University of Washington's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences to set up a psilocybin therapy pilot program.8

The almanac's timeline and history trace how the state got here, and the research entry covers the University of Washington's work.

The subject isn't on the near-term calendar either. House and Senate standing committees are scheduled to hold interim meetings in Olympia from December 7 to 11, 2026, and the agendas posted so far for Senate Health and Long-Term Care (December 8), the Joint Committee on Veterans' and Military Affairs (December 9) and House Health Care and Wellness (December 11) list no psilocybin, psychedelic or ibogaine item as of November 2.9 Agendas can change before the meetings.

What happens next

  • December 2026: prefiling for the 2027 session is expected to open in the month before session begins, as the Legislature describes it (it opened December 2 in 2024; this year's date isn't confirmed).2 We'll check the prefiled list for psychedelic bills and update this post.
  • December 7 to 11, 2026: interim meetings of House and Senate standing committees in Olympia.9
  • January 11, 2027: the 2027 regular session opens, and prefiled bills are introduced that day.
